TOPEKA, KAN. – An illegal alien from Honduras was sentenced to 24 months in prison for returning to the United States after previously being deported. According to court documents, Jose Alfredo Galiano-Meza, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of reentry of a removed alien.Galiano-Meza will be transferred to federal prison after he completes a sentence he is currently serving in the Kansas Department of Corrections. In November 2022, Galiano-Meza was sentenced in Kansas state court to 68 months of incarceration following a fatal automobile accident in Lawrence. “Mr.

Galiano-Meza was deported in 2013 and again in 2018. That was years before his arrest for causing a crash that killed a child,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser.

“If the U.S. government deports someone, that person is committing a federal crime and a felony by returning to our country without permission from the government.” Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigated the case.###
